Marvin Carroll Whitener Obituary (1930 - 2014)

WHITENER, Marvin Carroll - Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather- age 84 of Lebanon passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at University Medical Center. He was preceded in death by parents, Marvin and Elva Whitener and sister, Bonnie Whitener Marchak. He is survived by wife of 62 years, Betty Whitener; daughter, Carroll Lou Whitener (Bob) Campbell; sons, Marvin Evans Whitener II, Richard Rulfs (Debbie) Whitener, and Lewis William (Jennifer) Whitener; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Whitener was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean War and a member of West Haven Baptist Church. He began his working career in 1954 at Texas Eastern as a Junior Measurement Engineer. He retired from Texas Eastern as the Executive Vice President of Operations after 35 years of service. He was the past president of the Noon Rotary and Lebanon Golf & Country Club and served on numerous charitable boards. Mr. Whitener was an award winning turkey hunter. One of his greatest accomplishments were his many friends he made while sharing common interests through his love of hunting. He also had a passion for fishing, golfing, and gardening; giving away most of his vegetables he grew to family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. in the Partlow Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the West Haven Baptist Church with visitation from 12 noon until the service. Rev. Jonathan Richerson and Bob Hamilton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Wilson County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers, Charlie Mitchell, Sam Mitchell, Brian Montgomery, John Barrett, Tony Eckler, Mark Thorne, & Michael Randolph. Honorary Pallbearers.Mr. Whitener's grandchildren, his West Haven Sunday School Class, the Noon Rotary Club, Raymond Stewart, Bill Morgan, Pete Elmore, Bill Liggin, Dr. Brian Hughey, Dr. Hardie Sorrels, and his golfing & hunting buddies. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to West Haven Baptist Church.
